Most of my recipes include the use of fresh herbs. I have loved gardening since I was a teenager with my first apartment. My patios were always packed with pots overflowing with herbs and flowers. Now I incorporate herbs in my landscaping, and have them on hand for cooking all summer long. Do you know that most culinary herbs are considered a weed? Yup, and most of them are that easy to grow!
If you’ve ever wanted to grow your own fresh herbs, oregano is a great place to start. The fact that oregano is drought tolerant, and is not fussy about poor soil, makes it a very good candidate for my garden!
If you live somewhere with moderate to heavy rainfall, you may want to contain it. Oregano shoots out runners and will take over if you have fertile, moist soil. However, this is not a problem I am familiar with in the Southwest.
What is your favorite fresh herb to keep on hand? Drop me a note in the comments below. I’d love to hear from you!
